The tourist complex Bungalows Nautilus in Matagorda, Puerto del Carmen have won a place amongst the finalists of the Telefónica Ability Awards.

Queen Doña Sofía will be at the awards ceremony on Monday 17th January 2011 to present prizes to the companies who have modified their businesses to allow access for physically challenged people. Bungalows Nautilus have renovated the complex to include ramps, hydraulic chair lift in the swimming pool and a selection of specially adapted apartments allowing full use of their facilities for guests with disabilities.

The prize categories are:

Accesibilidad, Orientación a Clientes (Accessibility for Clients)

Mejor pequeña o mediana empresa privada (Best Small to Medium Private Company)

Mejor organización del sector público (Best Public Organisation)

The winners will receive a sculpture of Shane Holland which will credit them with “mejor han desarrollado modelos de negocio sostenibles para integrar la discapacidad" which translates to “best developed model of business integrating disabled” with their activities which include employees, suppliers and clients.

During November the 48 finalists from 458 candidates were chosen by President of Telefónica Ability Awards, César Alierta from diverse business sectors such as health, tourism, insurance, transport, small to medium enterprises, institutions and universities. Bungalows Nautilus was selected as they are part of the Hoteles Sostenibles in Lanzarote and one of the few establishments in Europe to have a special lift in the swimming pool for guests with reduced mobility.

The Bungalows Nautilus complex is ideally situated just a short walk from the beach, Puerto del Carmen promenade and the many shops, bars and restaurants. The bungalows are tastefully furnished with all of the modern amenities required for a self catering break, including a full kitchen, some bungalows specially adapted for guests with reduced mobility and disability, including spaces free of obstacles, adapted baths and showers in the bathrooms and specially adapted kitchens. The complex is fully accessible for wheelchairs with ramps and a hydraulic chair lift in the swimming pool. Free WiFi onsite for guests.
