The six British soldiers held on remand in Lanzarote since the incident in Costa Teguise were due in court today.
Four of the Welsh Guards (Craig Jones, Thomas Lawrence, Christopher Faulkner & Stephen Parry) received a prison sentence of 11 months after pleading guilty to criminal damage and assault, the other two men (Darren Meek & Carl Tyers) admitted to an additional charge of assaulting a police office and were sentenced to 18 months.
The six men were released into police custody earlier today as first offenders with prison sentences under two years are suspended, the men are free to fly back to the UK tomorrow to face their actions with the MOD. The guards will have to pay approximately €30,000 to cover the fines imposed and compensation awarded to the victims.
