Blue Water Rally 2009 -2011, Puerto Calero

Blue Water Round The World Cruising Rally The group of yachts in Marina Puerto Calero was complete at the end of October, all of the Blue Water Rally boats had made the first leg of their journey from Gibraltar to Lanzarote.  There are 32 yachts included on the roll call for the 2009-2011 event and they come from all over the world including Canadian, Spanish, British, Irish, Australian, Dutch, German, Swedish and American nationalities.

Miss Tippy www.rock2rock.co.uk What captured my interest was the camaraderie amongst the group, whilst in Lanzarote they have spent time on land together with activities such as an excursion to Timanfaya and walking the Los Ajaches trails along the coast, special meals at restaurant Amura and Catlanza Café which has formed a strong bond between the sailors.

Take Halloween for example, the children headed to Miss Tippy and made their costumes, Phyllis who is the “Halloween Queen” from America had warned the other boats to be prepared with candy, Bali Blue joined in the fancy dress and organised apple bobbing and the result was the kids said it was their best Halloween ever which is obvious from their group photo.

The group are now preparing to leave on the 14th November for the next leg of their round the world cruise, they’re off across the Atlantic to Antigua. This round the world adventure is going to take them 18 months, you can see their route map here and they will finish back at their starting point of Gibraltar. Have a great adventure and keep writing the blogs!
