Black Prince Retires from the Canary Islands

Fred Olsen Black Prince Fred Olsen Cruise Lines held a farewell lunch for the longest serving member of their fleet this month, Black Prince has retired from her career of ferrying passengers and cargo from the Canary Islands to the UK.

Black Prince was built for Fred Olsen in 1966 and known as ‘a little ship with a big heart and soul’, she started her career carrying passengers and tomatoes from the Canary Islands in the summer months and a car ferry to Scandinavia in the winter months. Black Prince has been forced to retire as she no longer complies with the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations but she won’t be left high and dry, she is being re-named Ola Esmeralda and starting a new life in Venezuela.
