If successful the airline will connect the capitals of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas by flying directly into the ports. The first step is to secure space for the landing strip and terminal building, Binter has already applied to the Port Authority in Las Palmas for an area of 5,788m2 of space at La Marquesina del Muelle de Santa Catalina and are now waiting on the authorities in Santa Cruz for space in the area of Los Llanos near the Parque Mari?timo y del Auditorio.

Binter have competition from Canary Islands Seaplanes who submitted their proposal first, plans for both companies are in limbo until Tenerife respond to the project. If the seaplanes are implemented, the two capitals could be connected with a 30 minute journey, accommodating up to 17 people per flight and costing in the region of €40. Very little infrastructure would be required after the green light to go ahead, the service would save time, be environmentally friendly and offer a great mode of transport for holiday makers wanting to island hop during their visit to the Canary Islands.

Harbour Air announced plans to operate seaplanes in the Canary Islands back in July 2009 and hoped to be operational during 2010, they are the world’s largest seaplane company connecting the mainland and islands of British Columbia.
