Asadero de Pollos, The Great Spanish Take Away

Asadero de Pollos

You must call in to one of the many Asadero de Pollos in Lanzarote if you get the chance, you won't have tasted better chicken or believe the portions and prices. The local Asadero is the equivalent to our Fish and Chip shops in the UK. There is normally one in each area and well placed so that you can pull up in a car to grab your take away (para llevar).

My favourite one in Lanzarote is El Gallo Loco on the roundabout in Tahiche, Eric the owner is French but speaks fluent English so pop in and sample one of his spit roast chickens, they are €6 for a whole chicken or you can have half for €3. There is lots of other food on offer, you need to have a portion of papas con mojo which is fried potato wedges with green mojo sauce poured on or alternatively you can have the chicken gravy which is also delicious. Eric has a full tapas menu available, deserts and drinks so you can pick up a picnic or take back to your home to enjoy. El Gallo Loco opening hours are 11am to 5pm every day and the telephone number is 928 84 37 82.

There is another asadero worthy of a mention, it is El Cruce on the roundabout at San Bartolomé, this is the first of the two asadero's in the same road on the right hand side heading towards Tinajo and the Monumento Campesino. The chicken breast in breadcumbs (pechuga empanada) are just fantastic and don't forget your portion of papas and mojo as well to accompany it, as well as roasted chicken and other tapas dishes.

Finger lickin' good!
