The Cabildo of Lanzarote and Ayuntamiento of Arrecife have confirmed a programme of activities taking place in Arrecife to revitalise La Avenida along the seafront of the capital.

What was once a bustling area remains empty after reopening, following months of roadworks to install the Zonas Commercials Abiertas (ZCA).

A month and a half of activities including music, theatre, sport and children’s activities have been scheduled for Friday afternoons as part of the Plan de Revitalización del Comercio Local “La Marina”. There remains some controversy over the ZCA on La Avenida, with mixed opinions over whether this area should be pedestrianised, restricted to residents, business owners and public transport, or open to general traffic.
