Arrecife’s carnival festivities start on Friday 25th February with Batucada from Villa Pipol and comedian Matías Alonso from 20:00 at the Castillo de San Gabriel. If you’re looking for inspiration for your carnival costume, the theme this year for Arrecife is opera although anything goes!

A photo and video exhibition covering the last 25 years of carnival will be on display at the Sociedad Democracia until the 13th March. The exhibition will include the years 1985 – 2010 and is in memory of the late D. Domingo Brito.

The Masquerade Balls (Bailes de Máscaras) are held each evening of the 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th March with entertainment from orchestras Tamarindos, Lanzarote Swing, Suso and Family, Journey, The Warren, Salinas Atlantic Quartet Show. These parties will be back in the centre, in the areas of the Almacén and parque Ramírez Cerdá. Also participating in the carnival festivities are Dj Doctor Geiperman, Maquinaria Band, Banda Nueva, Rika Banda y Dj Latino.

The main carnival procession is on Monday 7th March at 18:00, the floats will make their way down the main road the Medular from the sports centre (Ciudad Deportiva) to the car park on the sea front by the Cabildo.

Wednesday 9th March (Miércoles 9 Marzo)

18:00 The burial of the sardine to mark the end of carnival. The procession will leave from the Ayuntamiento de Arrecife along the sea front road towards the park in front of the Cabildo for the gran finale including a firework display

18.00 horas: Entierro de la Sardina. Salida desde el Ayuntamiento de Arrecife, finalizando en el Parque frente al Cabildo con la quema de La Difunta Sardina en medio de un espectáculo de Fuegos Artificiales
