José Manuel Soria has been in the news again, this time the Minister for Industy, Energy & Tourism confirmed that the waiver for airport taxes in the Canary Islands has been extended.Taxes have not been applied to flights arriving in the Canary Islands since the start of 2010, this waiver was introduced to help boost tourism. Low cost carriers such as Ryanair and Jet2 were attracted to providing flights to Lanzarote and other islands on the basis of this tax agreement. The extension of the “bonificaciones de las tasas aeroportuarias” was passed on Friday by the Council of Ministers who supported the “Renove” plan for tourism in the islands and Spain. This is fantastic news for anyone planning to fly to Arrecife airport in Lanzarote during 2012. |
