Fiestas de Santa Rosa de Lima, Órzola

Santa Rosa 2009 The Órzola summer fiesta, Santa Rosa de Lima starts today, below is the programme of events planned until Sunday 30th August. There are verbena’s on both the Friday and Saturday nights next weekend, but lots of other fun events during the ten days too!

Urbanfest, Arrecife

Urbanfest There was a great atmosphere down at the Recinto Ferial in Arrecife last night, the Urbanfest events were really popular with skateboarding, graffiti, climbing on offer and a selection of stalls selling accessories and clothing.

Hollywood Motor Show

We enjoyed the motor show down at Playa Honda last night, and without doubt it’s the biggest spectacular we’ve seen on the island! It’s fantastic that the team have managed to bring dozens of trucks and so much equipment over here, and it must have been a logistical nightmare to organize.

Virgen de las Nieves, 5th August

Las Nieves 3 The municipalities of Teguise and Haría and Yaiza are preparing for the homage to Virgen de las Nieves (Virgen of the snows) on the 5th August. If you would like to take part this year, please see the programme details below. The church Ermita de las Nieves is perched high above both of the towns on the risco de famara and although the walk is up hill you are rewarded with some absolutely stunning views! The locals used to make the pilgrimage to this church to pray for rain, when water was so desperately needed.  read more »

Samba Lava 2009, 25th July, Puerto del Carmen

Samba Lava 2009 The second edition of the Concurso de Batucadas Canarias, Samba Lava 2009 will be held on the 25th July at Plaza Varadero in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote.

Its fantastic to find a batucada event outside the normal Carnival months of February and March. The batucada beat is one that you can’t help dancing to, with very little practice you can perfect the Carnival shuffle! A Batucada band is basically a variety of drums, the leader uses his whistle to direct the band members, have a look at their promotional video below.  read more »

Día de Canarias, Lanzarote

There was lots of traditional music and dancing at the huge Sunday market in Teguise last weekend, to celebrate Día de Canarias, together with displays of Lucha Canaria (Canarian wrestling) and samples of food and drink to taste.
