St George's Day Party, 23rd April 2011

We’ve celebrated St. Patrick’s day in Lanzarote and now for the second year running there will be a party held in Puerto del Carmen to celebrate St. George’s day.

St George Cross England Flag

This might be a good time to mention the other patron saint’s days for the United Kingdom – St David’s day is the 1st March for Wales and St. Andrew’s day is the 30th November for Scotland.

St. George wasn’t English, he was known to be a Christian martyr of Turkish origin, dragon slayer and maiden rescuer who was designated as the patron saint of England in 1425 after the Battle of Agincourt. It is said that he dressed in white robes adorned with a red cross, the cross of St. George is England’s national flag and also represented within the British Union Jack.

The celebrations will once again take place in Montaña Tropical centre situated overlooking the old harbour of Puerto del Carmen. The event is free to attend and starts at 15:00 with performances from the following musicians and bands:  read more »

Royal Wedding, 29th April 2011

In Lanzarote there hasn’t been any Royal Wedding fever. I’m not expecting any street parties or to see china cups on sale adorned with images of Willam and Kate but I know there are some Royal Family fans out there and would like to reach out to any businesses in Lanzarote who are embracing the big day on 29th April 2011.
