David Sucar MagiAventuras A night of magic with the illusionist David Sucar and his theatre show “MagiAventuras”. The show will be held at the Teatro Municipal in Tías at 19:00 this evening. Tickets cost €12 and are available from the Departamento de Cultura in Tías.

"Niños del Tercer Mundo" Annual Christmas Fayre in Tías, 28th November 2010

Niños del Tercer Mundo The "Niños del Tercer Mundo" Annual Christmas Fayre will be taking place on Sunday 28th November from  10:00 to 16:00 in the Plaza El Pavón in Tías.

"Niños del Tercer Mundo" is a Spanish registered charity (reg. no. G1/S113926-06/LZ) concerned with the welfare and education of children living in the third world.

It's based here in Lanzarote and it was started in the mid 1990?s by Gill and Christopher David.

While helping to build two one-room schools in Peru, they were asked if there was anything they could do to help bring water to thousands of poverty-stricken families  living in cardboard shacks on steep hillsides near Lima, Peru. The total lack of running water and sanitation had led to outbreaks of disease, including widespread tuberculosis.

III Feria de Comercio, Ocio y Gastronomía, Tías 13th & 14th November 2010

Tias centre A two day market can be found at El Pavon in the Plaza Anfiteatro in Tías this weekend. The event has been organised by the Ayuntamiento de Tias and the Asociacion de Empresarios de Tías and each shop in Tías is expected to have a stall representing them.

The market will be open Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th November from 9am to 8pm.

Fiestas de San Francisco Javier, Yé, 12th - 28th November 2010

Fiestas de San Francisco JavierThe tiny village of Yé in the North of Lanzarote starts their fiesta on Friday 12th November. This village is nestled at the base of Monte Corona the big volcano overlooking Órzola and close to the Mirador del Río.

A lot of these events don’t translate well into English but some of the highlights include a Flamenco evening (Gran Guateque Musical Flamenco) on the 13th with prizes for the best costumes, a children’s fiesta (Gran Fiesta Infantil) on the 14th with games, animation, music, fun and games. Wild West Fiesta (Gran Fiesta del Oeste) Friday 19th, a procession through the village (Romería) in honour of San Francisco Javier with dancing and entertainment later from El Golpito.

Salta, salta, salta – lots of jumping for the kids on Sunday 21st. Friday 26th is the exhibition of old photographs submitted for the competition, the theme is children. Saturday is the great dance (Gran Baile) with the popular band Los Conejeros. Sunday 28th is the finale of the fiesta with singers from the village and dancers from the Latin dance school with trophy presentation for the competitions held during the fiesta.

lanz ambientalInternational Festival for the Environment

“Natural is what we are, what surrounds us and what we are able to protect.”

Nature and our natural resources here in Lanzarote are a huge source of inspiration to the many artistes and craft workers.

This is the starting point and common denominator that has inspired a group of artists to launch the Cultural Association “Lanzambiental”.  This group is the organizer of the festival of the environment which runs from November 7th-13th here in Lanzarote.

Langai Walking in Teguise The founding members are Salvador Quesada Machin, an actor known for his concerns about damage to our environment.

Elvira Heras, actress, who has taken part in Climate Project Spain, which was started by Al Gore with the aim to train 200 experts in climate change.

Pedro Herrera, composer, musician and humorist who has staged numerous performances to highlight concerns about our planets resources.

Their aims for the festival include creating a framework of artistic culture which will increase public awareness of maintaining a harmonious relationship with the rich natural environment here in Lanzarote.

They hope to promote Lanzarote as a forward thinking ambassador of the environment, and want to promote active participation by island residents and visitors, especially to involve children and youth population.  read more »
