The Picture Of Dorian Gray, 26th & 27th November 2010

Cartel EL RETRATO DE DORIAN GRAY A theate production of Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray comes to Lanzarote for two nights on the 26th & 27th November 2010.

The novel is the story of a young man called Dorian Gray who is the subject of a painting by Basil Hallward. The artist becomes infatuated with Dorian’s beauty which is portrayed in his art. Through the artist Dorian meets Lord Henry Wooton who changes his view on life, Dorian wanting to remain young and beautiful wishes that the portrait ages instead of him.

The show has been produced by Teatral Chespir and directed by José Manuel Clar and will be performed at the Teatro Municipal in Tías at 20:30.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Puerto del Carmen, 26th November 2010

"Tías, 15th November 2010

Dear Sirs,

The 25th of November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. To mark the occasion the Ayuntamiento de Tías through the Concejalía de Bienestar Social y Familia are organising a series of activities that will take place the week from the 22nd to the 26th of November, with a multicultural event on Friday the 26th.

During this week there will be information stalls in the Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen where professional experts in the subject will answer any questions and provide any required documentation in relation to Domestic Violence.

The closing event will take place on Friday the 26th of November at 17:00, inviting along the citizens to attend the act, to raise awareness in the eyes of society.

The Lost Fingers in concert at Cueva de los Verdes, 2nd December 2010

The Lost Fingers "The Lost Fingers" is a Canadian gypsy jazz music group based in Quebec City. Its members are Alex Morissette (backing vocals, double bass), Dr. Christian Roberge (lead vocals, guitar), and Byron "Maiden" Mikaloff (backing vocals, guitar). The band's name was inspired by gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt who lost the use of two fingers following a fire.

Lost in the 80s, their 2008 debut album, earned a platinum certification for sales of 100,000 within Quebec alone within 12 weeks of its release.  read more »

Día Internacional de los Pueblos, Costa Teguise, 20th November 2010

III Semana Cultural The Lanzarote resort of Costa Teguise has been celebrating their III Semana Cultural this week organised by the Asociación Cultural Cortijo del Majo, culminating in a day of events for Día Internacional de los Pueblos on Saturday 20th November 2010.

The event on Saturday opens at 11:00 with lots of typical food, arts and crafts from a whole host of countries including Spain, Columbia, Rumania, Venezuela, Ecuador, Germany, Belgium, Cuba, Argentina, Senegal and Bolivia. The stalls can be found in the car park in front of the Celeste Apartments on Avenida Islas Canarias.

"Niños del Tercer Mundo" Annual Christmas Fayre in Tías, 28th November 2010

Niños del Tercer Mundo The "Niños del Tercer Mundo" Annual Christmas Fayre will be taking place on Sunday 28th November from  10:00 to 16:00 in the Plaza El Pavón in Tías.

"Niños del Tercer Mundo" is a Spanish registered charity (reg. no. G1/S113926-06/LZ) concerned with the welfare and education of children living in the third world.

It's based here in Lanzarote and it was started in the mid 1990?s by Gill and Christopher David.

While helping to build two one-room schools in Peru, they were asked if there was anything they could do to help bring water to thousands of poverty-stricken families  living in cardboard shacks on steep hillsides near Lima, Peru. The total lack of running water and sanitation had led to outbreaks of disease, including widespread tuberculosis.
