Who are you.......Rubarboos

If you have read my recent post on the St George’s day party you may have been wondering who are “Los Rubarboos”.

rubarboos logo, poster jesters These rocking cool dudes are based in Teguise where they have a regular sunset session at La Cantina, the wine bar/ bistro owned and run by lead singer Benn Atkinson and his wife Zoe. This chilled Sunday gig has already become a firm fixture on the live music network in Teguise. It’s held in the outdoor patio area of this gorgeous 400 year old finca, and is a perfect setting to enjoy a few drinks and listen to some good tunes.

There are plans for the next Sunday session to be on 14th May from 3pm and Benn also hopes to host a music jam night on occasional Fridays in the coming months.

I had a coffee and chocolate brownie (delicious by the way!) at La Cantina with Benn recently to get a bit more “Lanzarote Information” on the Rubarboos.  read more »

St George's Day Free Music Concert

st georges day photo St. George's Day has been remembered and celebrated much more in recent years with English people wanting to mark the day of their patron saint. Saint George was, according to legend, a soldier in the Roman army who killed a dragon to save a princess and is the patron saint of England. The day he died in 303AD is marked as St George’s day.

The well known Lanzarote ska band “The Skatoons” are heading up a St George's day event to be held on April 23rd at CC Montaña Tropical, Calle Toscon, Puerto del Carmen. This Friday sunset session will start around 3.30pm.

The Skatoons have recorded an England world cup song, “The world cup’s waiting for you” and decided on St George’s day as appropriate to celebrate and play their song, along with the rest of their brilliantly well received ska set.

skatoons The band deservedly has a great “toon army” who follow them and so this event is sure to have a party atmosphere. The seven piece band has recently had a change of line up with Derek joining on bass as their previous player John returned to the UK. They have a number of new songs in the set as well as their classic ska anthems Baggy Trousers, One Step Beyond and Night Boat to Cairo. Keyboard player Chris has also written a number of original songs including the England footy song which is doing very well in the competition at www.worldcupsong.com as well as being included in a compilation album of England football songs.  read more »
