Although there is a good month or so left of school holidays in Lanzarote, many of us are already thinking of the scramble to get all the necessary items to send our kids back to school for the new term.

Anyone who has previously joined in the absolute melee of the school shops in Arrecife will be delighted to know that “Unicoles” will once again be providing their excellent service via their website and convenient stall at Eurospar.

Unicoles was set up by two mums who found it increasing expensive and stressful getting their own children outfitted with uniforms each year and decided there must be a better, more economical way.

Anna and Rebecca will have the stall up and running in Eurospar from Monday 16th August right up till the week after school starts in mid September.

They will be there each day, from Monday - Saturday, 9.30 am - 7 pm.

The schools they sell full uniforms for are:

However they also have white polos, and t shirts at great prices and also pale blue polos for Teguise school.

Their stock for the schools includes tracksuits, jumpers, cardigans, trousers, socks, and even trainers in sizes 26-36. Their trainers cost only 12€ yet I can assure you of their quality as my 3 year old had only two pairs in the whole of the last school year.

The checked smocks, known as babbys, for infant children are available in various colours and they even sell raincoats!

In addition to the stall you can of course make an order via their website www.unicoles.com and uniforms are for sale during the fortnightly parents evening visits in both Costa Teguise School and Argana.

Currently when you visit a Eurospar supermarket in Lanzarote and spend over €50 on your food shopping, you will be directed to a till to collect your entrada (entrance) ticket to Rancho Texas theme park in Puerto del Carmen.

The tickets are for use until the 31st September 2010. The cashier will stamp the ticket, initial the receipt and staple the two together.  read more »

More than 200 people watched the show from Animaciones Nailyth last Saturday and if you missed it there’s a chance to go again this weekend. All of your children’s favourite television characters will be there on stage in the centre of the Deiland Shopping Centre in Playa Honda.

25 characters will make an appearance along with presenter Adriana who plays games. The music from each television show is played when the character appears much to the delight of the children.

The fun starts at 7pm until 9pm.

There’s a surf competition this Sunday at Famara in Lanzarote open to young surfers from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura aged from 7 to 14 years old. The Federación Española de Surf are on the look out for new local talent!

I was interested to read the BBC News Lancashire article this morning about Rachael Faye Hill who received her medical degree at the University of Manchester this week aged 21.

Rachael was born in Blackpool and moved to Lanzarote when she was eight. Her mum enrolled her at the British private school Colegio Hispano Británico (CHB) in Puerto del Carmen where she excelled in her studies, taking her GCSE exams early at the age of 13 followed by her A-levels at 15. Rachael left school in Lanzarote with A grades in biology and chemistry and B grades in maths and physics.  read more »

The Centro de Ocio at Santa Rosa on the Avda del Mar in Costa Teguise are offering summer activities for children throughout the holidays.
