Eating Like A Local In Lanzarote

So you want to eat like a local when in Lanzarote? Both the times and what is eaten tends to be quite different to the pattern in northern Europe.

Although restaurants in the resorts will cater for you, If you turn up for lunch at 1200 or dinner at 1800 in a locals restaurant, don’t be surprised if they aren’t ready for you!

Breakfast – Before 0800

Breakfast before work always involves coffee, and often is just coffee, although it may involve a croissant or some churros.

Second Breakfast – Around 1100

Lanzarote Restaurant Review, Bar El Moreno

We’ve passed this bar many a time without realising that the Bar El Moreno in San Bartolomé is better known as “four forks” amongst the local community.

Bar El Moreno

El Moreno is situated on Calle el Quintero just off the mini roundabout on the main road in the centre of San Bartolomé  close to  the Monumento al Campesino. We needed somewhere to eat something quick one evening before a concert and decided to give it a try. We parked on the land opposite and walked past the tables on the terrace outside, they were buzzing, inside there are two main dining rooms, we sat down at a table by the bar.

Bar El Moreno Carne y Papas

This place is reminiscent of a sociedad and has a great atmosphere, the clients were a mixture of Spanish and English and within half an hour, almost every table was occupied.  We ordered the parillada de carne which is the dish that this bar is famous for. We asked for a portion for two people, the waiter asked again if we definitely wanted it for two people and when it arrived we realised why! It’s a  read more »

For those of you who have not attended one of these events, which also happen at various other towns around the island during the year, the idea is that participating bars and restaurants create a special tapa dish for the event. You visit each of the venues and ask for “tapa especial” and your choice of a glass of wine, a small beer or a soft drink, which are great value at 3€.  read more »

Lanzarote Restaurant Review, Volcan de La Corona

The Restaurante Gril Volcán de La Corona is situated in the village of Yé by the crossroads to the Mirador del Río. We decided to visit for Sunday lunch after a walk up Monte Corona, luckily we’d already decided to book a table in advance, as it was full by 2pm.

Volcán de La Corona Mojo y VinoVolcán de La Corona Message Board

It was our first time eating at the Volcán de La Corona, this restaurant has a patio area with a few tables outside and a large dining room inside. On this occasion we preferred to sit outside, it was a lovely day and we had a table in the shade. The fresh mojo sauces delivered with bread were good, in fact the Mojo Verde was one of the best we’ve ever sampled.  read more »

Lanzarote Wine Week A Success

Lanzarote wine week, which coincided with The European Day of Wine Tourism ended yesterday.

Christmas Dinner Recommendations From Lanzarote Locals

Almost daily now we have questions by email and through our social media pages to ask “Where’s the best place to book a traditional Christmas lunch in Lanzarote?”

Christmas dinner on Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen Lanzarote

If you’re flying over for Christmas for the first time and you’re not sure what to expect, then don’t worry the majority of bars and restaurants will be open for Christmas Day. Not everyone has special festive menus so unless you want to eat in a specific restaurant, you won’t need to book in advance.

For those of you who want a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, it’s definitely better to book in advance, some bars & restaurants are already fully booked.

We’ve asked a selection of locals from each holiday resort, to recommend where they would book to enjoy a traditional Christmas feast with all the trimmings.

Puerto del Carmen

Two of our recommendations for this holiday resort are already fully booked, they included the Costa Sal at Matagorda and Casa Cabaña in the old town.
