Malpeis Brewery and its craft beers: Jable, Bermeja and Rofe

I had been following with excitement this new brewery in the island since I read about them in the press over a year ago. And when they opened up earlier this year, I went to check them up. Malpeis Brewery is in Calle Malagueña in Tinajo, literally behind the Police Station.

Malpeis Cerveza Artesana

For a 5€ fee you get a tour of the quaint little brewery and a generous sample of their 3 different beers with some nibbles that I must admit were exquisitely chosen.  Additional bottles to enjoy your favourite are available for sale too!  A bit of advice: designate a driver prior to starting the tasting, or even better, make the most of your visit and book some rural accommodation to stay the night.

Lanzarote Restaurant Review, Divina Italia

We had a few appointments in the capital yesterday and decided to have an impromptu lunch in the Charco de San Ginés area of Arrecife. There’s a lovely selection of restaurants in this picturesque area of Lanzarote’s capital, we’d heard good things about Divina Italia, so decided to visit their Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant.

Many of the tables on the terrace were already occupied, there was a mixture of Spanish and British residents lunching as well as tourists. The food coming out of the kitchen looked fabulous, we decided to share the house salad (Ensalada Divina) and a spicy Pizza Vesubio. There were plenty of friendly waiters on hand, their language skills were being tested by the variety of nationalities who had been drawn to the restaurant for lunch.  read more »

Lanzarote Restaurant Review - Spice Tandoori, Costa Teguise

We ended up at Spice by accident. Jules made a bid in a charity auction and won a voucher towards a meal there, so we took some friends along to try them out.

The restaurant is situated opposite The Coronas Playa Hotel in Avenida del Mar, in a line with a few bars and restaurants. There are tables inside and outside, and we opted to sit inside.

We all enjoyed some poppadoms with the usual chutneys and we went for a selection of starters including onion hajis, a prawn puree and pakoras. Everything was fresh and tasty, and washed down well with Cobra Indian beer.  read more »

For tea aficionados like me, you really have to visit this delightful cafe at the back of the marina in Puerto Calero. There’s a great choice of teas available and what’s more, they’re served in china cups! I can’t think of anywhere else that offers this in Lanzarote, and of course  read more »

Lanzarote Restaurant Review, Blue Horizon

We were initially disappointed on arrival at the Blue Horizon, it was our first visit and we had heard great things about this restaurant situated at the front of the Sol Lanzarote hotel.

The reason for our disappointment was because the sushi menu was not available at 1pm, we’d been looking forward to this lunch for ages, so with a heavy heart we started to browse the tapas menu. All was not lost, there were actually some very different and interesting options in the tapas selection, and despite the modern furnishings and beachfront location, prices started from as little as €3.25.

Top 7 places to drink Guinness in Puerto del Carmen

Everybody knows that Puerto del Carmen is the Irish capital of Lanzarote and since St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner, the black stuff is bound to be flowing in copious amounts soon enough.

The whole serving ritual has had me mesmerised for years and I admit that it certainly was an acquired taste for me.  For the un-initiated, or the occasional Guinness drinker like myself, all pints might taste the same. "Sacrilege!" I hear the Guinness lovers' say.

So I decided to ask my regular Guinness drinking friends where you can drink the best pint in town. The answers varied considerably as the choice of Irish establishments is numerous.

Bearing in mind that I am no expert and that this was a quite unscientific approach, here are the top 7 places for a good pint of the black stuff in Puerto del Carmen (in alphabetical order):  read more »
