El Pastelito, Tahiche

The German bakery in Tahiche is situated just above the roundabout at Gallo Loco on the main road heading from Tahiche to Guatiza and beyond.

Sindy y Mattias El Pastelito It is owned and run by Mattias Geissler and Sindy Wendt, who amazingly make every single cake, biscuit and bread roll themselves on the premises each day. The shop has a gorgeous display of bread, cakes and pastries all made in the German style.

We may disagree with Germany over football but there is a pleasant accord with the Brits over puddings. Did you know for example that you can buy homemade apple or cherry crumble pies here any day of the week? Giant Danish pastries, cheesecakes, cream eclairs and even a rhubarb sponge cake!

As a qualified eater I can recommend the “Berlina”, known to us as a doughnut and in El Pastelito you can choose between varied fillings such as jam, custard, custard and raspberry or chocolate!  read more »

Lanzarote Restaurant Review - Sakura V

We found ourselves hungry and in Arrecife recently and fighting an urge to revisit one of our favourite restaurants in the capital we sought out a new one to try. We’d heard some really good reports from friends about the Japanese restaurant Sakura V situated on C/ José Antonio and wandered round to see what was on the menu.

Sakura V Exterior Sakura V Entrance

The Sakura V restaurant is divided into two, the left hand side is the cinta (belt) and the right the carte. Intrigued by the Menú de Cinta which is available everyday we headed up the stairs and were met by our waiter who seated us and explained that we just help ourselves from the selection of food passing our table on the conveyor belt.  We ordered two Japanese Kirin Ichiban beers and picked our first dishes to try.

Lanzarote Restaurant Review - Ca 'Pipo, Playa Blanca

Bar Cafetería Ca'Pipo I think we may have found the best value “menu del día” in Lanzarote!

Bar – Cafetería Ca ’Pipo is situated in the town centre of Playa Blanca, in the newest shopping area C.C. Correillo near the HiperDino supermarket. They have a “menu anticrisi” which is available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week between 12:30 and 15:30. For just €3.90 you get a starter, main meal, dessert and a drink of water. The starter is a choice of salad or soup and the main meal is a choice of fish or meat, there is a dessert provided which can be fruit, ice cream or cake.

We were offered either vegetable soup or potato and vegetable salad, we opted for the salad and a huge portion was immediately brought out with fresh bread. The cubes of potato were cooked to perfection mixed with fresh chives and mayonnaise, I managed 3/4 of the serving before admitting defeat.

¿Quieres conocer la gastronomía de Canarias?

The Guanches staple food was Gofio and this has remained in the Canarian gastronomy along with meat from their grazing flocks of goats, sheep and pigs which also provided dairy products of milk and butter. The dishes were influenced over time by the explorers calling into the islands before sailing the Atlantic, these ships arrived stocked with sugar cane, vines and bananas.

Café Bar La Fuente, Costa Teguise

Café Bar La Fuente A new café bar has recently opened in Costa Teguise.

Jointly run by Paula and Haley, La Fuente is a new family centered café bar in Costa Teguise.

On the site of the previously popular Coffee and Cream, La Fuente has been re named in honour of the fountain gardens just in front of it.

It is located in CC Los Charcos which is a small pedestrian square which opens out directly from the main Avenida, opposite the Post Office. The local police office and doctors surgery are also located here so plenty of local passing trade call into La Fuente for morning coffee and pastries.
