Lanzarote Restaurant Review, Restaurante Playa Blanca

I had a lovely lunch in Playa Blanca yesterday.Restaurante Playa Blanca I was visiting the South of the island and looking for somewhere to eat a fresh fish dinner with a cold glass of white wine before a chill out with a swim and relax on the beach. Having read recommendations for Casa Pedro I thought this could be an opportunity to try that restaurant but standing outside reading the menu with my friend it did nothing for us. We decided that we should walk along the front as a couple of others had caught our eye earlier in the day.

Restaurante Playa Blanca had a menú del día for €9, a varied tapas menu and some chef’s specials. The front of the restaurant was busy with a friendly ambience, we spotted a table and decided this was our lunch spot for today. Our waiter Sandy welcomed us and asked if we’d like a drink first or the menu which we appreciated, sometimes you can be sat for a while considering what to eat with no drink. Two very large glasses of cold vino blanco seco arrived whilst we contemplated what to eat.

I was tempted with the menú del día, there was a fish option which would have satisfied my craving but the chef’s specials had caught my eye.  read more »

Lanzarote Restaurant Review - La Aulaga, Costa Teguise

It’s not often that we get two separate emails in the space of a week, telling us how good a new restaurant is. But Brenda, and John and Dawn took the the time to do so.

La Aulaga 1  La Aulaga - Vino

La Aulaga is set slightly back from Playa Bastian, but facing the sea and with a fabulous view. We were greeted by Simone, our waitress, who served us a small, chilled apertif, and then Miguel the owner arrived at our table. To say he is enthusiastic about his restaurant and the food is an understatement.

I’m going to digress for a moment, but when I first came to the island, I would often say at a new tapas restaurant: “Can you do us a selection of 4 or 5 of your best dishes please?” And it always resulted in a blank look and the question: “What do you want?” So I gave up.

But Miguel suggested exactly that to us - “Let me serve you a selection of food, trust me, you’ll enjoy it!” And we did!

Here’s what we had:  read more »

Sandra's Cafeteria, Playa Blanca

When ever I’m in Playa Blanca I’m drawn to Sandra’s Cafeteria on the main Avenida de Papagayo in the centre of the resort. This café is always welcoming offering a varied selection of fresh sandwiches, exquisite cakes and service with a smile. They’ve recently opened the café up to include a terraced area and offer Wifi for their customers.

Sandras Cafeteria Playa Blanca Sandras Cafe Playa Blanca

Recently on my search for where the early bird breakfast this café was bustling with activity. Since the inauguration of the new terrace in July there have been some additions to the menu, normally tempted by the sandwiches, croissants and cakes I surprised myself by ordering a tuna salad. I had only just sat down when my plate of fresh salad arrived and it was delicious, lots of tuna, fresh tomato, onion and olives. Another thing I like is that coffee is available everywhere but here there is a fabulous selection of tea, they have an assortment of tea bag varieties in a box on the counter – not just black, green, lemon or mint but summer fruits, lime blossom, cinnamon and many more.  read more »

Restaurant El Amanecer, 25 Years

Seafront in ArrietaThe family Mesa Armas received a special mention from the tourism department at the Cabildo in Lanzarote during their presentation for the Día Internacional del Turismo. This family have owned the popular seafront restaurant El Amanecer in Arrieta for 25 years and their hard work, service and high quality has not gone unnoticed.

Restaurante El Amanecer is one of my favourite restaurants in that village, you are always greeted like a long lost friend and nothing is too much trouble. They have a large dining area inside but its the terrace area that’s sought after, it’s a lovely ambience for a meal when you’re sitting al fresco listening to the lapping of the waves below and enjoying a stunning sea view.  read more »
