Accommodation
Club Las Calas is one of Puerto del Carmen’s original holiday complexes, located in an almost perfect position in the centre of the resort for easy access to the famous avenida’s beach, bars and restaurants. With a steady repeat clientele for 30 years, you probably won’t have seen it featured in holiday brochures or shouted about on-line.
We visited recently to find out more about the place, to see the improvements that have been made there over the years, and to learn what keeps people coming back year after year. read more » |

We recently attended a wedding at the Hesperia, so we took the opportunity to book into the hotel for a couple of nights and to see for ourselves what it is like. Our first impressions were excellent - we had a fabulous greeting from Antonio on reception, who explained everything to us, and then suggested a discounted room upgrade. We were brought a chilled glass of cava while we filled in the paperwork and we opted to go for the suite instead of the standard room. Its a long walk from reception to the rooms on the front, but well worth it for the view, and we later realised we could park the car in the “bottom” car park and it was then a very short walk to get to and from it. |

Although we offer holidays at hotels and complexes through our travel agency, we’re often asked to recommend the best people to go to for villa holidays. The problem is that most villas are privately owned, so you can end up spending hours searching through individual websites to find something that suits your needs. We’ve recently discovered Clickstay, read more » |

As you all know, we enjoy island hopping from time to time, and we recently spent a few days exploring Gran Canaria and we discovered an amazing hotel there! For this trip, we decided the take the car, so we headed over on the Naviera Armas ferry, which was comfortable and good value for money. Playa Del InglésAfter docking in Las Palmas, we drove down to the south of the island, to Playa del Inglés – the roads are fast and the traffic light, so we covered the 60KM in about 45 minutes. PDI is a huge resort, with loads of hotels and apartment complexes, all encircling the main beach, which is fabulous. There are several large shopping centres, and many smaller ones close to the beach, full of souvenir shops and bars and restaurants. The famous Maspalomas sand dunes separate PDI from Maspalomas, which is quieter and has a more upmarket feel. Bohemia Suites and SpaThe hotel is pretty special – it’s read more » |

We have two main advantages on other resorts when it comes to holidays – Lanzarote, along with the other Canaries, is the only truly all year round destination, and we also offer every possible type of accommodation for our visitors, from basci, cheap “hostals,” to super luxury five tsar hotels. Hostals or PensionesThese are the most basic type of hotel, which offer a small bedroom and usually a shared bathroom. Most don’t offer any catering facilities. There are a few in Arrecife, one in Puerto del Carmen and one in La Graciosa. Pros read more » |

We carried the news this week that the new letting law has been passed through The Canarian Parliament, but with a last minute change excluding properties in tourist areas. The hope was that the new law would give the right to owners to holiday let their properties. For communities, a vote was required, the property would have to meet certain standards and local taxes and a licence fee would have to be paid. All eminently sensible. Until the vast majority of properties were excluded from the new legislation. Properties here in Lanzarote are on land designated “touristic,” “residential” or read more » |
