Final Approval For Dive Station At Playa Chica

The Costas department has finally given approval to the new scuba diving station at Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen, having investigated a complaint about the project made by an individual. The new station will give changing and showering facilities to some of the 10,000 divers a year who use the site. read more »

Increase in accidents partly attributable to mobile phone use

A report appeared in Lancelot Digital this week seeking to find the cause of the increase on road accidents on the island. In 2016, there were 336 accidents, up substantially on the previous year’s 268. 139 people were slightly injured, 21 seriously and 10 people lost their lives. One of the contributory factors is thought to be use of cellphones, not necessarily to make calls, but often to update social media. read more »

Airport Problems At Lanzarote Last Weekend

We had airport chaos at Lanzarote last weekend, when several aircraft had to divert to Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen very often, but when the wind is strong, and gusting from the wrong direction it can cause wind shear, so attempting a landing is dangerous. In total 25 aircraft were diverted and the problem ran into Sunday as airlines tried to cope with aircraft being out of position. read more »
