Bath Travel, Canary Islands Presentation

Bournemouth was the destination for 47 travel agents from Bath Travel on Thursday for a presentation about the Canary Islands.


Currently the agency offer cruises to the Canary Islands which are featured in their Captain’s Collection 2011-2012 and Circle of Friends brochures. The conference was held by Promotur who are a public company working with the Tourism Department of the Canarian Goverment. The presentation introduced the brands marketed by the Canary Islands for holidays within Family Welcome, Volcanic Experience, Water Sports, Wellness Delight as well as highlighting the increase in travellers from the UK to the islands which is 18% up on last year for the same period January - May.

White Night in Teguise, 1st July 2011

The first of July will be celebrated with a Noche en Blanco where shops and restaurants will remain open until 4am in Teguise, the old capital of Lanzarote.


This is the first time that a Noche en Blanco has been held in La Villa de Teguise, not only will the businesses be able to open late, the Pirate Museum and Timple Museum will be open too and free to enter. Friday nights also have the special offer for a tapa and glass of Lanzarote wine for €3 in selected restaurants which is great for a Teguise Tapas Crawl around the old capital.

A free bus service has been provided for the night to connect the outlying villages and towns of Teguise.

There will be lots of activities and entertainment including batucada, ruta de tapas, children’s entertainment, wine tasting, series of mini concerts around the restaurants, videos, guided tours etc.

Teguise Races 27th August & 3rd September 2011

Two dates have been announced for the sporting calendar in Lanzarote, one is a race up to the castle in Teguise and the other a run along the beach in Famara.

Only the dates were released at this stage as part of the Active Teguise programme for the summer, so the information below is as in previous years, entry is normally free of charge and anyone is welcome to turn up an hour before race start and join in.

Playa de Famara Carrera Playera Famara 2011 – 26th August – 20:00 (NB Changed from 27th)

The Carrera Playera takes place at the fabulous beach in Famara, this is a friendly sports competition open to everyone. The distances are:

500m children up to the age of 6 accompanied by a parent

1,000m children aged 6 to 10 years old

3,000m children aged 11 to 16 years old

5,000m everyone aged over 16

Club La Santa Celebrates 28 Years

The Danish owned sports and family resort Club La Santa in Lanzarote celebrated their 28th birthday this week.

They’ve got a lot to celebrate too! Plans to extend the site to provide a four star hotel at the resort have been approved, the company are investing approximately 300 million Danish crowns in expanding and renovating the existing facilities and apartments at the sports resort.

Palm Tree Removal From The Circunvalacíon

Four months after the first stone was laid, work has actually started on the circunvalacíon (ring road) in Arrecife.

This week yellow lines were painted along the road which means there are road works in progress, now over 600 palm trees have to be removed from the roadsides so that the carriage way start to be expanded.  read more »
