Work has began to resurface the airport runway at Arrecife airport in Lanzarote (ACE). The maintenance has been scheduled around the flight arrivals and departures which will not be affected as the work is taking place through the night. The project costing 7,564,427 Euros was awarded by Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (AENA) to Dragados & Horinsa.
The runway, parallel taxiway and cross sectional routes will be resurfaced to include a superior tread. There was an incident with an Air Europa plane in October 2008 that almost slid off the end of the runway when the plane landed too far down the runway. The project also includes work on the control system, landing markers and wiring.
