Lanzarote Football, Lanzarote 2 C.D. Victoria 1

27th February 2011

The Rojillos incredibly came back from a goal down and stole a winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time to strengthen their lead at the top to four points.

The first half was a poor affair with Lanzarote edging possession and with the two best chances. In the 32nd minute Toñito cut inside his defender and unleashed a powerful low drive which was saved by the feet of veteran keeper Antonio. UD Lanzarote guayo

Two minutes later and defender Angel Gil saw his strike from the edge of the box clip the woodwork with the keeper well beaten. The La Palma side replied in the 36th minute with a well worked move down the right which led to midfielder Závan to have a clear strike at goal. His effort from 10 yards was miss hit and comfortably saved by the Rojillos keeper Alejandro.

Have you noticed our fuel prices creeping up? I was shocked to see petrol for sale over €1 per litre in February, for the first time since living here I was conscious that maybe I should start to shop around before filling up the car. Petrol Station Lanzarote

To understand how much fuel has risen recently, I compared an average figure for 2010 against an average so far for 2011:

Missing - Jackson The Pig

Unfortunately we didn’t hear about the free tapas offering in Arrecife on Saturday until the morning of the event, which is so frustrating as I know many of you would have made this another reason to visit the Saturday morning market in the capital. So that you know what you missed out on - The Association of Cochino Negro who farm the black pigs were offering a free tasting of this local delicacy (asada de cochino negro canario) along with our wrinkly potatoes (papas arrugadas), mojo and wine. Cute Black Pigs in Lanzarote

I read an article in La Voz about the event, apparently one of these rather cute little black pigs went missing during the day!

Raúl Santana has a finca in Tabayesco and had lent two of his pigs for the day so they could be on display in a pen at the Recova market. Raúl explains that he was working so he had dropped off the pigs with the organiser. It was only when they contacted him later in the day to see if he’d already been to collect them, that they realised that one was missing.

Raúl is stunned, he asks how can someone steal a pig in the centre of Arrecife?  read more »
