VI Concentración de Papá Noeles, Playa Chica, 11th December 2010

VI concentración de papá noeles The 6th edition of the Concentración de Papá Noeles take to the water in Lanzarote on Saturday 11th December 2010. This tradition of Papa Noeles started back in 2005 in Cantabria the story goes…..

Back in 2005, Papa Noel (Father Christmas) was flying over Spain when he flew through the eye of a storm and lost one of his reindeers called Rudolph who fell into the sea. Papa Noel urgently descended through the clouds and saw a small coastal town in the distance, this was Castro Urdiales in Cantabria, Spain. He quickly alerted some of the local scuba divers in the area and in less than half an hour, a group of 20 divers were ready to help search for Rudolph.

Rudolph was rescued but during their search they discovered that the sea was in a very poor condition and each year they re enact the rescue to highlight the need for conservation of our oceans.

Papa Noel has instructed one of his reindeer in the art of scuba diving since 2005 and this year he will be visiting Lanzarote to dive at Playa Chica in  read more »

Javier Reyes Acuña, Castillo San José, 26th Nov - 30th January 2011

MIAC 3000 photographs from Javier Reyes A photographic exhibition entitled La Isla Sumergida from Javier Reyes Acuña was inaugurated at the MIAC (Museum of International and Contemporary Art) on Friday 26th November 2010. Javier is a prolific photographer and his extensive collection offers an amazing insight into the hardships of post war life in Lanzarote between 1943 and 1972.

Lanzaroteño Carlos Alberto García wins Mister España 2010

Last year the Mister España final was held in Lanzarote, this year we won the event! Congratulations to Carlos Alberto García who was voted the most beautiful man of Spain at the Mister España 2010 Gala Night in Toledo yesterday evening.

Severe Weather Alert, Canary Islands

Weather Alert 29 November 2010 The Canarian government have issued a notice to say that all schools, colleges and universities will be closed Monday 29th November 2010 due to a maximum weather alert in the Canary Islands.

Strong winds are expected on the islands of La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife. There is less risk on the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

Although the weather due will be less intense for Lanzarote, the decision was taken to suspend classes on this island too.

Winds gusting from 130 – 170 km per hour are expected in high altitude areas.  read more »

Carrera de Caballos

Did you know that the island of Lanzarote has a horse racing course? Horse racing is known locally as carrera de caballos and is held twice a month on a Sunday during race season.

The race track known as the Hipódrome is situated in the Complejo Agroindustrial in Teguise, this is found on the road connecting Teguise with San Bartolomé close to the exit for Famara.

Family Christmas Concert, 12th December 2010


After the third sell-out concert at the beautiful Puerto Calero Marina, Maestro Music Management presents a Family Christmas Concert with a truly fantastic programme of famous Classical and Christmas music, songs and carols, performed by top British artists.  Three of the performers delighted the audience at Cueva de los Verdes earlier this year: the Zimbabwean soprano, Kim Brown, British baritone John Morgan and the pianist and musicologist, Kim Colvill.  On this occasion they are joined by Yao Yi, the virtuoso Chinese button accordionist who now lives in London.

The concert is on Sunday 12th December and starts at 6.00 pm, but arrive early to enjoy a ‘bit of a jam session’ with a trio of local musicians.

Everyone’s favourite christmas song is sure to be performed with classics such as The Holy City, Oh Holy Night, The Snowman, When A Child is Born, Mary's Boy Child, The Little Drummer Boy, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, White Christmas and Winter Wonderland amongst the programme.

Tickets, priced at 25€ (for front 5 rows) and 15€ (remaining rows) and 5€ (for children under 12 years seated with their parents) are selling fast and can be purchased online with Lanzarote Information or through the usual outlets.
