Plans for a new desalination plant in Lanzarote have been approved. The new plant will be constructed at Punta de los Vientos in Arrecife at a cost of 6.8 million Euros, it is expected to be implemented within 14 months.
Currently Lanzarote has two water desalination plants situated at Punta Los Vientos in Arrecife and Planta Janubio in Yaiza. Due to an increase in demand of water, these plants are now operating at 90% of their maximum capacity every day. The plant at Punta Los Vientos has two lines Lanzarote III and Lanzarote IV both of which produce 30,000 cubic metres of water a day, Janubio is much smaller with a capacity of 7,500 m³/d.

For some the thought of visiting the huge Teguise Market in Lanzarote fills them with dread, it’s the hustle and bustle of jostling crowds and the irritating way that you can’t stop to look at the goods on a stall without being hassled by the “looky looky” men. I on the other hand enjoy an occasional visit to the market, it’s a great place to bump into friends and catch up with the latest artists in Lanzarote.
This week I found two stalls situated in Calle El Reyo that caught my eye for the first time:
Wood Art by Leo
Leo moved to Lanzarote from Rugby with his wife Joan in 2007. Now settled in the far North of Lanzarote in the village of Órzola he spends his time creating beautiful objects from locally grown wood. You may have noticed the lack of trees in Lanzarote but you’d be surprised at what is available. Thanks to Joan Lanzarote residents are reminded to let them know when they are trimming their trees and Leo is on hand to remove any unwanted branches before recycling them into wonderful individual pieces.
U.D. Lanzarote extend their lead at the top to four points following a home victory and with their nearest rivals Las Palmas B slipping up with an away defeat.
Rojillos winger Toñito was to prove the difference between the two sides. Every time the local lad received the ball he attacked the defence at pace causing chaos and was a constant threat throughout the match.
In the 21st minute Toñito laid on a pass to Ayoze and his first time strike from 20 yards looked destined for the right hand corner but a Jandia defender just managed to get a nick on the ball and guide it to safety.
Centre back Eliot flicked on a corner in the 35th minute which struck a defender on the line but the ball somehow ended up in the keeper’s arms. Lanzarote held the majority of possession for the first half but neither side went into the break with an advantage.
Lanzarote came out for the second half in familiar fashion. As each minute past the Rojillos were edging closer and closer to that all important first goal. read more »
We were recently invited by Marie Backman for coffee at her old Canarian house in La Asomada. It was our first time to Casa Carpe Vitam, the traditional style house just oozes character with some fabulous sea & mountain views. Marie had made an awesome chocolate cake to serve with the coffee, while we tucked in she explained her plans for the future.
At the moment the property offers spacious rural accommodation for up to 10 guests, situated only 5 minutes from Puerto del Carmen. There are bedrooms in the main house or a private 2 bedroom villa in the garden. Casa Carpe Vitam is flexible enough to offer bed & breakfast for an individual or fully inclusive for a group.
Both Marie and her daughters are qualified masseurs offering a range of relaxing spa treatments from chocolate massage to a mud bath. We particularly liked the double open air baths in the garden, here you can lie in the bath with an incredible sea view.
