R. Schumann - Liederkreis (Heine) Op. 24 1810 – 1856
Morgen steh’ ich auf und frage
Es treibt mich hin, es treibt mich her
Ich wandelte unter den Baumen
Schone Wiege meiner Leiden
Lieb’ Liebchen, leg’s Handchen auf Herze mein
Warte, warte, wilder Schiffmann
Berg’ und Burgen schaun herunter
Anfangs wollt’ ich fast verzagen

I like to walk in Lanzarote and wanted to cover the section of promenade from Arrecife though Playa Honda to the airport runway where the path connects in Matagorda to a previous walk along the strip in Puerto del Carmen. Instead of walking this time I decided to take my bike and cycle the route parking at the Parque Temático on the sea front by the Cabildo in Arrecife.
The distance table for Lanzarote shows that the airport to Arrecife is 7km, this promenade is a lovely way to explore this area and there are loads of tapas bars and restaurants to stop at for refreshment! On a bike this didn’t take long at all about 30 minutes each way I took it very easy and stopped to take photographs, the footpath has 10 steps in one section where you can dismount and walk up or try pedaling across the beach – there wasn’t a ramp here which could make it difficult if you have a wheelchair or pram with you.
I started out from the car park along the wide promenade, the pink brick section is for cycling, I liked the shaded seating area along this front, to the left is a view to the Gran Hotel and to the right you can see as far as the Femés mountains.
Local Lanzarote football team Unión Sur Yaiza were delighted with their latest win which was nothing to do with football but the Lotería Nacional. The number 52.642 fracción 5 serie 8 drawn by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado on the 18th September 2010 meant a home win of 4.2 million Euros!
Each decimo of the number was awarded 60,000 Euros with a special prize of 2,940,000 for the fraction and the series.
Unión Sur Yaiza have bought the number for the past 22 years buying the tickets at €6 and selling them at €7 to raise funds for the club, this week they had sold over 60 decimos sharing the win with members from the club, their supporters and residents in the Uga and Yaiza area of Lanzarote. What a fantastic prize for them and their loyal supporters. read more »
I’ve been cautious about publishing this Eurospar offer as the last one with free entrance tickets to Rancho Texas seemed a bit hit and miss as to the vouchers being issued. Over the past couple of weeks during a quick shop in three different Spar / Eurospar shops I have been given Charlie’s discount vouchers with each purchase.
I spent just over €10 and received a €5 voucher, over €20 and received a €10 voucher and with a higher bill for a weekly shop it was a €20 voucher.
The vouchers are accepted at the 23 Perfumerías Charlie’s shops in Lanzarote and valid from 26th August to 30th November 2010. The vouchers can only be used individually and not cumulatively added together, they can be used to buy perfumes, make-up, watches and sunglasses and give the following discounts: read more »
Playa Blanca is a resort that stretches along the coastline in the South of Lanzarote. The resort seems to be divided into two areas, from the centre to the Lighthouse or the centre to Papagayo. I visited the commercial centre of El Pueblo situated in Las Coloradas at the end of the resort closest to the beaches of Papagayo.
This centre has never been fully occupied and unfortunately at the moment there are an awful lot of empty locals here with for rent signs in the window. Having said all that there is a nice ambience with a handful of very good businesses located here so you really should go and check it out!
The shopping centre was built in the style of a town with a Plaza Mayor and the passageways have street names.
El Parque is an ice cream parlour and coffee shop, you can sit inside or on this lovely terrace which overlooks a children’s play area. read more »

This week I’ve had time on my hands between the hours of 8am to 10am and found myself wandering through the resorts of Lanzarote. I thought I could have a breakfast somewhere picturing myself flicking through the newspaper with a good old fashioned English Breakfast and a mug of tea whilst I waited for ten o’clock.
I was sorely disappointed, almost all of the bars and restaurants are closed during this time! I settled for a coffee and a doughnut in a café but are we missing an opportunity?
I would like to have a quick survey!
If you own a bar or restaurant and offer a breakfast service – which bar / restaurant is it and what time do you start from?
If you eat breakfast out in Lanzarote – what time would you like to eat?
