Lanzarote Airport, Crash Simulation

Lanzarote Airport Fire Simulation If you saw some unusual activity at the airport in Lanzarote earlier this week (20th October 2010), there was no need to be alarmed. Excercise “Operación Búho” was a planned simulation of an emergency plane crash with 22 passengers and 4 crew. The Operation was called Owl as the simulation was carried out at dusk to fully test the capabilities of emergency services.

The twin engine airplane was reportedly carrying a dangerous cargo as well as the passengers and crew, during landing the plane left the runway, breaking the undercarriage causing a wing and engine to impact with the ground which started a fire. The control tower sent the alarm to Parque de Bomberos (firemen) and the Centro de Operaciones (control centre) where the full emergency plan was put into operation.  read more »

Lanzarote Football, C.D. Victoria 1 Lanzarote 3

U.D. Lanzarote have been firing on all cylinders since the start of the season and after this latest away victory it reads; torres 171010played nine, won seven, drawn one and lost one. This Championship winning form has shot the Rojillos to the top of the league with four point’s breathing space.

The Rojillos began the game half asleep and were fortunate in the first minute that they did not go a goal down. Midfielder Carlos Tutu fired in a cross come shot only to see his effort rebound off the foot of the post with a team mate inches away from a tap in.

Lanzarote slowly got themselves back into the game and it didn’t take long to reap rewards. In the 20th minute Javi Betancourt blasted in a low and hard strike from just inside the box which travelled under the keeper to give his side a 0-1 lead.

The La Palma side steadied the ship and held the majority of possession but rarely threatened the Lanzarote keeper. Each time the Rojillos won the ball they looked dangerous and should have extended their advantage.  read more »

Lanzarote Football, Lanzarote 2 Las Zocas 0

Two late goals see the Rojillos return to winning ways and go two points clear at the top of the league.

jotha121010 The Tenerife side that were unbeaten in their last four outings sent a clear message of their defending intentions by playing two sets of four players deep into their own territory.

Lanzarote´s domination of this match began from the Refs opening blow of the whistle. Man of the match for the visitors was goalkeeper Samuel and in the 14th minute he made a superb double save, firstly from striker Echedey whose powerful drive from close range was blocked then smothering the rebound from the feet of new boy Javi Morales.

Ten minutes on and the visitors number one was at it again producing a fine save from Rosman following good work from Toñito. The Tenerife side defended superbly to keep the score line goalless at the break but offered absolutely no danger to the bored Lanzarote keeper Ruyman.

The tempo in the second half didn’t change at all with Echedey spurning a good opportunity in the opening seconds. The Rojillos passed the ball quickly making their opponents work hard and gradually tire.

The introduction of striker Jonathan Torres on the hour mark injected a little more urgency and in the 72nd minute the deadlock was finally broken.  read more »
